OUR MISSION

Rural Veterinary Experience Teaching & Service (RVETS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2010.
RVETS is dedicated to providing high-quality veterinary care to horses, donkeys, and mules whose daily labor is essential to the livelihoods of people living in rural and underserved communities. By improving the health and welfare of working equids, RVETS also supports their owners—individuals and families who work as hard as their animals and often live in vulnerable conditions. The welfare of both equid patients and their owners is a central consideration in all RVETS decisions.

Equally central to RVETS’ mission is education. Through our Comprehensive Working Equid Field Medicine Program, RVETS provides veterinary students with in-depth, hands-on training that combines theoretical learning with supervised field experience. This program emphasizes close mentorship, meaningful responsibility, and real-life rural practice, preparing future veterinarians while inspiring many to continue serving working equids and the communities that depend on them.

Our mission is to improve animal welfare while strengthening people, communities, and the next generation of veterinary professionals.
